An Overview:

Often referred to as a transcontinental country, the Republic of Turkey, connects the European communities at its western edge and the Asian cultures in the east creating a multi-cultural nation with a history to match. For example, the historic city of Troy, dating back to the Neolithic Era and brought to life by Brad Pitt and his cast mates,  is located in northwestern Turkey. The archaeological remains of Troy are currently included in the UNESCO World Heritage list. More recently the area of Turkey has, at times, been the center of the Roman and Ottoman Empires.

Tourism in Turkey has grown tremendously  and visitors are welcomed by the people and government to take part in their culture and visit their resorts and historic sites. A great beginning source of information is the Ministry of Tourism web site at http://www.tourismturkey.org/
