Karen's Review Of
Hotel Hassler:
The magnificent Hotel Hassler stands out as Rome’s premier deluxe hotel—still family-owned and managed by the Wirth family. Its location at the top of the Spanish Steps is unsurpassed: the majority of Rome’s monuments and chic boutiques are close by, and for guests who want to explore Villa Borghese Park, complimentary bikes are available. The fact that the proprietor, Roberto Wirth, is on the premises shines forth: you almost feel like a guest in a private palace. When the Hassler was renovated, Astrid Wirth, Roberto’s wife, even tracked down the old-established manufacturer who was able to reproduce the original fabrics for the walls. The decorating theme is classical with hues of warm reds and ochres prevailing, the same rich colors used in many palazzi across Rome. At the heart of the Hassler is a romantic inner garden courtyard, a delightful oasis with stone walls laced with vines, a fountain, statues, flowers, cozy little tables, and a bar. The panoramic restaurant at the Hassler is also spectacular, boasting one of the finest views and cuisine in Rome: the entire panorama of the city surrounds you as you dine. All of the guestrooms are splendid, but if money is no object, reserve one of the magnificent suites, some with enormous terraces and a view so spellbinding that you will never want to leave this splendid hotel. Dining is available also at the elegant Salone Eve or at the Palm Court Garden—or at the nearby Hassler owned Aroma del Palazzetto restaurant.
