California
Central Coast
Overview:
The Central Coast, at one-time a maligned roadway between San Francisco and Los Angeles has been transformed into a real gem. Stretching from north of Santa Cruz through Santa Barbara this section of coast has become a popular place to live, visit and play. With the increase of people and traffic has come a wealth of fantastic lodgings from: immaculate three room bed and breakfasts; to luxurious small inns located at fabulous wineries; to boutique hotels and luxury resorts with views to die for.
The coast is home to some of the most magnificent scenery seen anywhere in the world. Along the actual coast, the Big Sur drive is one of the most traveled scenic routes to be found. The inland portions of the Central Coast are populated by wineries, both small and large, forming one of the largest grape growing regions in the state.
Approximately one-half of the Spanish Missions built in California during the latter half of the 18th and first quarter of the 19th centuries are located in the Central Coast along what was the El Camino Real or “The Royal Highway”. Many of these Missions have been preserved and open to the public.
The itinerary we offer through the central coast is ‘San Francisco to Los Angeles via the Coast’. This driving itinerary spends most of its time in the central coast region visiting Santa Cruz traveling down to Monterey and Carmel then down the coast to it’s crown jewel, Santa Barbara. Along the way you will find magnificent lodging accommodations. Some will be simple, some will be romantic and some will be extravagant but, be they a bed and breakfast, a charming Inn, a stunning Hotel or Resort, they will all be memorable.
