Germany
Saarland
Overview:
Bordering France and Luxembourg in the southest area of Germany, the Saarland state mixes the cuisines, languages and cultures of France and Germany. This is to be expected as the borders of this region, at one time an important coal producing area, have shifted back and forth over the years between France and Germany.
The river Saar winds its way through the beautiful woods and valleys of this small German Region. The capital city of Saarbrücken on the shores of the Saar is the population center of the region with most of the region's inhabitants living within the greater metropolitan area of the capital.
