TRAVEL QUESTIONS FOR KAREN:

Dear Travelers,

I hope you will understand that because of the overwhelming number of questions received each day it is impossible for me to answer every one. I will select questions to answer based on what I believe will benefit and interest the greatest number of travelers. Also, please make your questions as specific as possible and know that I do not have the luxury of time to plan or detail personalized travel itineraries.

If your question is not selected, I sincerely apologize, as given the time, I would answer them all. If your question is selected you will be informed that it is published on our website as well as receive the answer by email.

Kindest regards,
Karen

Hi Karen,I have just joined your website and have purchased the driving tour in Provence France. My wife and I are thinking of catching a train from Paris to Aix and starting our trip from there and not doing Marseille. We would like to do your trip from Aix and end up in Montpellier where we will take a train to Barcelona. We would like to spend one night in Aix, two nights in Avignon and one night in Montpellier. We intend to take 8 days for the trip so my question is where would you spend the other 4 nights? We would like to 2 by 2 nights in two different towns. Many thanks for your assistance.
Asked by A Karen Brown Traveler [Oct 24, 2012]

Answer:
I would recommend:Aix - two nights - per your itineraryAvignon - two nights - per your itineraryRather than Montpellier, I would recommend:La Caze - on the Gorges du Tarn (you would need to rent a car-public transportation would prove inconvenient) - one nightvisit Cordes sur Ciel enroute to Cuq Toulza - two nights Ceret or Collioure - two nights Train from Perpignan to Barcelona If you would like personalized trip planning assistance, I highly recommend Marie Notot. Question:
We have used you for Ireland, Scotland, England, 4 trips to Italy and, through Elegant Europe, Spain. We are now headed to China next. Do you know of a resource like you that might be able to help us choose a place to stay in Hong Kong?
Asked by Deborah Buckley [Oct 8, 2012]

Answer:
Unfortunately, I do not have a recommendation, however, each time I have been to Hong Kong I have chosen to stay at the Intercontinental REGENT.  It is set right on the water's edge of Victoria Harbor with nothing obstructing its view across to Hong Kong Island.  The Peninsula Hotel is long considered one of the finest hotels in the world - but, I prefer the waterside setting.Thank you for thinking of us!  I wish we had already covered more of the world with "Karen Brown Recommended Properties!"http://www.watchesbyus.com/

Question:
Hi Karen. We are into our seventh week travelling France based on your itinerary, and have found ourselves with three spare nights before we arrive back in Paris. Is there anywhere you can suggest we travel to between Conques in the Lot River Valley and Paris. We are using your 2009 edition and was wondering if you have discovered anything new? Thank you, Jennifer Zalewski, Australia
Asked by A Karen Brown Traveler [Oct 5, 2012]

Answer:
Not knowing where you have traveled already during your seven weeks (how wonderful!!!) I will make the assumption that you are circling back north and would recommend three nights at the heart of the Loire Valley before venturing back into Paris.  Although, there are many to choose from, I would recommend any of the following as well centrally located and very nice: Amboise: Le Vieux Manoir (B&B) http://www.karenbrown.com/B_and_B_Guide/France/Center/Amboise/Le_Vieux_Manoir/2613.php Amboise: Le Manoir les Minimes (hotel)  http://www.karenbrown.com/Hotel_Guide/France/Center/Amboise/Le_Manoir_les_Minimes/2542.php Cangey: Le Fleuray (hotel) http://www.karenbrown.com/Hotel_Guide/France/Center/Cangey/Le_Fleuray_Hotel_and_Restaurant/2518.php Montbazon: Domaine de la Tortiniere (hotel) http://www.karenbrown.com/Hotel_Guide/France/Center/Montbazon/Domaine_de_la_Tortini%C3%A8re/1066.php Nazelles: Chateau de Nazelles (B&B)   http://www.karenbrown.com/B_and_B_Guide/France/Center/Nazelles%E2%80%93N%C3%A9gron/Ch%C3%A2teau_de_Nazelles/888.phpIf you want to break the journey enroute to the Loire Valley, I would recommend a charming mill:Le Moulin du Roc in Champagnac de Belair  http://www.karenbrown.com/Hotel_Guide/France/Aquitaine/Champagnac_de_B%C3%A9lair/Le_Moulin_du_Roc/5468.php ; Enjoy your last few days in France! Question:
Do you have a tour group that we can use: one that stays at your b&b's or small hotels exclusively and in England, Scotland and Wales? (We made the 1994 tour of those countries ourselves, staying at only KB recommended places; now not able to rent a car because of our early 70's ages) Thank you. Thank you.
Asked by A Karen Brown Traveler [Aug 1, 2012]

Answer:
Sorry for the delay in responding. I have been on the road researching.  There are some wonderful companies that offer smaller group tours and even some of the larger ones will customize a tour specific to your needs.  However, I contacted AutoEurope and they said that, for example, Hertz and Europacar do NOT have upper age restrictions...only lower.   You might want to contact them directly for more information (1-800-223-5555) and definitely mention that you are a Karen Brown Traveler for a preferred discount.Enjoy your trip!Karen http://www.watchesbyus.com/rolex/daytona

We stayed in a wonderful small hotel/villa/ in Positano, on the Amalfi coast, and I thought the name was Villa Flora and that it was in your book but now I can't find it and want to recommend it to a friend.

Answer:
Unfortunately, I do not know of a Villa Flora, we do recommend a Villa Rosa and a Villa Franca......could it possibly have been in a town other than Positano?  Best, Karen http://www.watchesbyus.com/omega

Question:
HelloI have your France book on B & B in France and book on Hotels in France. We are going to be in Provence Sept. 9 -12 and wondered where you recommend we stay. We would like to stay in one hotel and rent a car and do day trips. We were thinking in the Avigion area but are extremely open to any suggestions. We would be leaving the area on the 12th and going to Geneva.Thank you
Asked by A Karen Brown Traveler [Jul 11, 2012]

Answer:
This is a challenging question as there are so many wonderful places to stay in Provence in both our France Hotel and France B&B guides.   For your ease of reference, below is a link to a list of some of our favorites:http://www.karenbrown.com/List_Regional_Hotels_Inns_Bed_and_Breakfasts/France/Provence-Alps-Cote_d'Azur/44/name/page_1.php  But to help you narrow down the selection, since you want to use one place as a base, I would also suggest a property in a town so you have the convenience of local restaurants and a few shops and one with a pool so you have the option of relaxing a day as opposed to sightseeing:  Gordes: La Ferme de la Huppe (b&b)Bonnieux:  Le Clos du Buis (b&b)Bonnieux: Les Trois Sources (b&b)St Remy de Provence: Mas de Cornud (B&B) Les Baux de Provence: Mas de l'Oulivie (hotel)I would suggest you read our descriptions which will hopefully provide insight into their individual merits as well as connect through from our website to their website for even more information.  Again, this list only reflects a few of our many favorites but, I hope it helps you focus!Thank you for using our guides and recommendations,Kindest regards, Karen  http://www.watchesbyus.com/omega/ladymatic
