TRAVEL QUESTIONS FOR KAREN:

Dear Travelers,

I hope you will understand that because of the overwhelming number of questions received each day it is impossible for me to answer every one. I will select questions to answer based on what I believe will benefit and interest the greatest number of travelers. Also, please make your questions as specific as possible and know that I do not have the luxury of time to plan or detail personalized travel itineraries.

If your question is not selected, I sincerely apologize, as given the time, I would answer them all. If your question is selected you will be informed that it is published on our website as well as receive the answer by email.

Kindest regards,
Karen

Question:
Hi Karen: How can I plan more than one trip at a time? Every time I go to Trip Planner, it only allows me to work with one trip it seems. Thank you! Lynn
Asked by Lynn DelMastro [Feb 9, 2011]

Answer:

Dear Lynn,

I am SO RELIEVED that you did NOT loose your itinerary and four hours of work!  Thank you for letting me know!

In terms of creating another trip - you can! You can store many different itineraries in your Trip Planning account.  When you click on Trip Planner, scroll down and you should see the option, CREATE NEW ITINERARY (after making sure you have saved your current trip :)! )  Then any and all of your trips should show up in a list at the bottom and you simply click on the one you want to bring up to review and work on.

Hope this helps. If you have ANY other questions or problems, don't hesitate to contact us.

Thank you for using Trip Planner!

Best, Karen

Question:
Hi Karen: I thought for sure I had saved a trip on your website. I was devastated to find it not saved when I logged on today. I spent 4 hours creating it. What did I do wrong? I'm beyond upset. Thank you for any tips you can give me to avoid this from happening again. Karen - forgive me, I found the trip I saved. What threw me was when I logged on and went to trip planner. My trip did not appear in the drop down menu. Therefore, I thought it was unsaved and just sent you an email with that question. But when I went to create a new trip, I saw it there. Thanks again - Lynn
Asked by Lynn DelMastro [Feb 9, 2011]

Answer:

Dear Lynn,

I honestly can't adequately express how very relieved I am!!!  I wouldn't have blamed you for being so MAD at us if you had lost your itinerary and all that time....and, truthfully, there are times when we make mistakes or there are glitches in the system. I am so glad this wasn't one of them!

I am here to help if you need me!

Question:
We will spend 4 nights in Provence; want to be close to Avignon, Arles, Nimes, Aix, etc... We notice that costs per night in Remoulins seems to be a bit less than elsewhere in the region. We're curious why? Are we better off to spend more money for atmosphere, history, and location elsewhere or is Remoulins a good spot to use as a base? Why want a clean, comfortable, happy experience; two properties priced about 100 Euros per night stand out: La Terre Des Lauriers and Bize de la Tour? We want comfort and convenience as well as a positive experience, shall we spend more money or will we find that either of these two locations in Remoulins will provide a happy experience. We can afford more money we just don't know if the extra money spent will give us any more satisfaction. Thank you, Phil Leddel
Asked by Phil Leddel [Feb 7, 2011]

Answer:

Dear Mr. Leddel,

Remoulins is more “off the beaten tracks”, that is why it’s less expensive than other key tourist towns such as Bonnieux; Les Baux de Provence…

In terms of location, Remoulins is a good base from which to explore the Provence area (it’s located on the border with the Languedoc Roussillon area).

To give you an idea it’s located 35mn away from Arles; 25 mn away from Nimes; 20 mn away to Avignon;  and 1h15mn to Aix en Provence (which is really further South). And you will be 5 mn away from the famous Pont du Gard, which is worthwhile visiting!

Now for the two properties: la Terre des Lauriers and Bize de la Tour, both are very nice with their individual charms, wonderful hosts. I will say that la Terre des Lauriers has a large garden all around the house and has a swimming pool (which could be a very important asset depending on your traveling time), so you feel more like being in the countryside.

Now Bize de la Tour is located in the entrance of Remoulins on a quiet square, does not have a garden, but a charming terrace where they serve breakfasts.

In either one, you will have for sure a lovely experience.

Thank you for using our recommendations!

Karen

Question:
We would like to have a suggested itinerary for visiting the following cities - Rome, Perugia, Bologna, Florence, Siena, Montepulciano, San Giminango, Assissi, Spello, Ravena . Could you make suggestions on a tour, hotels etc.
Asked by Ann Jurata [Feb 6, 2011]

Answer:

We have detailed seven regional countryside itineraries and one overview/highlight itinerary for Italy.  Based on the towns you have listed of interest, there is not one itinerary that incorporates them all. I will list below the towns you want to visit and the corresponding itinerary.  You can purchase ($8.50 each) individual itineraries as downloadable, PDF files on our website (Click on teh following link for a list and information on all the itineraries-http://www.karenbrown.com/ListItineraries/Italy/8.php) OR you could purchase ($19.95 each) either our guide to Italy Bed & Breakfasts or our guide to Italy Hotels and each title includes all eight itineraries as well as descriptions of the places we recommend for the respective guides. OR you could purchase ($19.95) Tuscany & Umbria which includes the two principal itineraries of interest based on the towns you have noted, and marries the recommendations from both books, i.e., it includes our itineraries for Tuscany & Umbria and all the hotels and all the bed & breakfasts from the two overview guides to Italy.

Rome: Italian Highlights by Train & Boat - or Car

Perugia: The Haunting Beauty of Umbria

Bologna: Italian Highlights by Train & Boat - or Car

Florence: Italian Highlights by Train & Boat - or Car  and Romantic Tuscany

Sienna: Romantic Tuscany

Montepulciano: Romantic Tuscany

San Giminango: Romantic Tuscany

Assisi: The Haunting Beauty of Umbria

Spello: The Haunting Beauty of Umbria

Ravenna: not on a specific itinerary

Thank you for your interest in our guides and recommendations.

Kindest regards,

Karen

Question:
Hi Karen: I came across Locanda San Verolo in your Italy guidebook, only the website can't be found? Have they closed? Thanks! Lynn
Asked by Lynn DelMastro [Feb 6, 2011]

Answer:

Dear Lynn,

While there is no fee to be featured in our guide, (we want nothing to influence our selection or editorial), we do have a nominal fee to cover the administrative cost of our website. The properties we recommend have the choice of whether or not they want to participate. Unfortunately, the Locanda San Verolo does not have a website presence, but, are recommended.

Hope this helps!

Question:
Dear Karen: In your guidebook on Italy, and on your website, you note Villa Dal Pozzo d'Annone. It seems that the hotel is "temporarily closed". Would you happen to know when they're going to re-open? Thanks! Lynn
Asked by Lynn DelMastro [Feb 6, 2011]

Answer:

Dear Lynn,

Villa Dal Pozzo d'Annone is closed for the season. They reopen in April. That being said, I assume, although, perhaps not immediately, they will answer correspondence during their seasonal closure.  It perhaps confused you not to find them on our website. We do recommend them in our guidebook, but they have not opted to participate on our website for which there is a nominal administrative fee.  It is a shame as they are missing out on the faster growing internet audience!  I am glad you found them through our book.

Kindest regards,

Karen

Question:
Hi Karen: I'm planning a trip to the lake region, and came across the Camin Hotel Colmegna. While it's not necessarily what I'm looking for, I did notice the description mentions, "it's just up the road from their hotel on Lake Maggiore (in our other guide)". Which other guide? And can you tell me the name of the hotel? I have your 2008 edition of Italy Hotels, and your Italy B&B book (it has no date on it). Would it be in one of those books? Thank you very much! Lynn
Asked by Lynn DelMastro [Feb 6, 2011]

Answer:

Dear Lynn,

Their other property is the Camin Hotel Luino, Viale Dante, 35, Luino, Lake Maggiore in Italy. Unfortunately, I do not have a 2008 edition at hand to reference, but in the current edition it is on page 270 of our Italy Hotels guide.

Thank you for using our guides and recommendations!

Best, Karen

Question:
Hi Karen: Curious to know about staying in the Lake region of Italy in the summer. If we choose a property right on the lake, and there are no screens in the windows, is it okay to keep them open at night? Are there mosquitos that come in off the lake? Thank you!
Asked by A Karen Brown Traveler [Feb 1, 2011]

Answer:

Since mosquitos are obviously a concern for you, I would recommend that you definitely choose an accommodation with screens or with air conditioning and avoid the problem completely! Unfortunately, we can't address how bad it might be at the time of your stay as it is dependent on so many factors.  You might also ask the property. They would be able to tell you more specifically based on first hand knowledge and seasonal history.

Yes, mosquitos exist throughout the world but, there are also plenty of products on the market to protect oneself!

Enjoy the Lake District!

Best,

Karen

Question:
Are you still recommending Hotel Belvedere located in Taormina Italy? I read your wonderful recommendation included in your 2009 Book of Italy Hotels. However, I notice that Hotel Belvedere does not appear on your website as a recommended Hotel in Italy. Thank you.
Asked by A Karen Brown Traveler [Feb 1, 2011]

Answer:

Yes, we still proudly recommend them. There is no charge to be in our guides as we want nothing to influence our editorial or selection, but we do have a nominal fee to cover the website administration.  Unfortunately, the Hotel Belvedere is not currently participating on our website and missing out on the fast growing Karen Brown internet audience.  In your case, they are fortunate you found them through the book!

Thank you for using our recommendations!

Question:
Dear Karen, the taste of your choice its fantastic. I am a designer and my husband its an architect , we live and work in Milan and we are owner of an ancient mansion house near the Como lake .We planned to open a very special B&B for few selected customers and we would like to know how we can be included in your selection. Can you please contact us ? Kindest regards Lorenza
Asked by Bozzoli Lorenza [Jan 26, 2011]

Answer:

Dear Lorenza,

Thank you for your very flattering and kind email and for your interest in being part of the Karen Brown World of Travel.  I am certain your property will be as lovely as your correspondence!

Please send me more information about your property (name, address, description, photos etc.) and I will definitely keep your information on file for when a researcher is next in your area.  In the meantime, your property can be featured on www.karenbrown.com as a Traveler Recommendation!  Simply ask a guest to submit a review and then once it goes through our editorial process it will post on our site. You can then add photos and update information.  It is a great way to get exposure to the Karen Brown traveling audience in advance of our visit.  Traveler Recommendations also seem to get lots of attention-people perceive a Traveler Recommendation as something "new"!

Thank you for contacting us!

Wishing you all the best,

Karen
