TRAVEL QUESTIONS FOR KAREN:

Dear Travelers,

I hope you will understand that because of the overwhelming number of questions received each day it is impossible for me to answer every one. I will select questions to answer based on what I believe will benefit and interest the greatest number of travelers. Also, please make your questions as specific as possible and know that I do not have the luxury of time to plan or detail personalized travel itineraries.

If your question is not selected, I sincerely apologize, as given the time, I would answer them all. If your question is selected you will be informed that it is published on our website as well as receive the answer by email.

Kindest regards,
Karen

Question:
Hello, We plan a trip to Italy in Oct. - staying in Verona for three nights and am looking for an accommodation. I recently purchased your ebook for Italy Bed and Breakfasts and found only one accommodation listed in Verona for 200 euro. I was hoping for more options to stay in Verona...should i refer back to the KB site where I see a few more listings for places to stay in Verona? Thank you for your help. It is much appreciated. Best, Joannah Livingston
Asked by Joannah Livingston [Aug 14, 2014]

Answer:

Dear Joannah,

Glad you were able to take advantage of our Birthday coupon and now have our guide to Italy B&Bs.  Yes, there are three other properties in Verona that are published in our Italy Hotel guide and we also have some wonderful reader recommendations that have come in for Verona.  I would suggest going to our website, search VERONA and the other properties will come up for your consideration.

Thank you for your interest in our recommendations!

Kindest regards,

Karen

Question:
We will be in Cortona for two weeks this June staying with friends and want to do some day tripping. I plan to buy one of your books on Tuscany (have used and recommended others like Ireland) and am just looking for day trips out of Cortona. I don't want to visit Rome again but do want to go to Florence which is an easy train ride away. I have found a Segway tour that interested me. Can you give me any other advice - we are just starting to plan this trip?
Asked by A Karen Brown Traveler [Aug 10, 2014]

Answer:

I hope you mean next June or I am too late to help!

I see you have already purchased Tuscany but, I would also recommend Haunting Beauty of Umbria (Cortona is featured on this itinerary) as well as Undiscovered Sabine Hills - all three itineraries detail suggestions that would make for great day trips from Cortona.  The individual itineraries are also better than purchasing one of the E-Books (Italy Hotels or Italy B&B) since the itineraries include properties from BOTH titles.   Also, you should take advantage of a recent offer sent in our newsletter: use coupon code BIRTHDAY (at the point of purchase) and you can take $10 off any one order.

In terms of tours, I am not personally familiar with Segway but, you might consider Tours by locals - www.toursbylocals.com. I have used their guides on a few trips and have been impressed.

Thank you for using our recommendations!  It is so nice to have loyal KB Travelers - much appreciated!

Best, Karen

Question:
Karen: I am 70 years old and taking my granddaughter who is 17 to London England for the first time for both of us. I have thought a escorted tour might be best because neither of us have been to England. What do you think? I have traveled overseas but always with other people. This will be my first trip overseas without my husband and friends. I am a little insecure about it, but also want to make sure we have enough free time to go to sights such as the Beatles hang outs and The Royal Academy of Arts.
Asked by Jessica Sholders [Aug 9, 2014]

Answer:
What a lucky granddaughter!  Will your entire time be in London?  If so, I would suggest a sightseeing bus tour to orient you and offer a general introduction to the sights.  You can then easily return by taxi, tube or on foot to explore destinations that hold the most interest.  London is such an easy city to explore and fun to do so at your own pace.  If you decide you want to choose from an already established tour or hire your own private tour guide, I would recommend Tours by Locals.  www.toursbylocals.com. Have a wonderful trip! Best, Karen

Question:
Hello Karen,I purchased an itinerary from you on the Normandy region of France and looking forward to using it next month. I wanted to stay in Bayeux but both of your recommendations are booked. do you have any other recommendations for hotels and is Bayeux the best place to stay.We are leaving the Paris airport, going to Giverney and then want to stay close to the Normandy and St. Michel sites. Thanks
Asked by A Karen Brown Traveler [Jul 29, 2014]

Answer:

Unfortunately, summer months are difficult to secure reservations in France - lots of Europeans are on holiday.  Bayeux makes for a good base from which to explore the D-Day beaches but we also have other recommendations convenient to exploring the beaches (all of which will be described in your itinerary.) Two of my favorites are:

Vouilly: Chateau de Vouilly (B&B)

Crepon: Manoir de Crepon (B&B)

But, also located at the heart of Normandy - still feasible for making a circle trip to explore the beaches and you do not want to miss the port town of Honfleur:

Honfleur: La Ferme St Simeon

Honfleur: Hotel l'Ecrin

Honfleur: Le Manoir du Butin

Campigny: Le Petit Coq aux Champs

Le Bec Hellouin: L'Auberge de l'Abbaye

Appeville: Les Aubepines aux Chauffourniers (B&B)

Hope one of our wonderful recommendations will be able to accommodate your dates.

Thank you for using our recommendations.

Kindest regards,

Karen

Question:
Am trying to purchase the East Germany itinerary and for some reason it keeps saying I have the wrong card number…have purchased other itineraries from you with same card. Thanks for your help
Asked by A Karen Brown Traveler [Jul 23, 2014]

Answer:

Dear Marian,

Sorry you are having trouble.  We use a secure third party payment server (authorize.net) so we do not save or have your credit card information.  It would be necessary to  submit the credit card information with each order.  Please let me know if you have any other problems.  Sorry for the technical issues - I know I always find them so frustrating!

Thank you for using our recommendations!

Question:
Couple over 50 beginning our new life together looking for a spectacular place to elope in wine county, perhaps Oregon? Love the idea of the Russian River because Pino Nior is some of our favorite wine. Don't want to be in the crazy crowds we have heard about in Sonoma. Do you have any personal favorites or suggestions? Look forward to hearing from you!
Asked by A Karen Brown Traveler [Jul 22, 2014]

Answer:

I personally love the Sonoma Wine Region and two personal favorites are:

The Vintners Inn , Santa Rosa

http://www.karenbrown.com/Hotel_Guide/California/Wine_Country/Santa_Rosa/Vintners_Inn/132.php

A larger property with gorgeous grounds, lovely facilities, spacious beautifully appointed rooms, great staff and wonderful restaurant - Italian Ambiance.  They also own a fabulous winery, Ferrari Carano Winery which is located on a gorgeous tributary of the Sonoma Wine Region.

Another favorite, just to the north of Glen Ellen is Beltane Ranch .  It is a charming yellow clapboard ranch house set in the vineyards.  Smaller, simplier and more personal in terms of service.

All of the above are recommended in our recently revised itinerary, Wandering through the Wine Country .It is available for sale in our store for $2.99.

Question:
Hello, we are planning a trip to Barcelona in June 2015. Where can I find your most recent version of Spain and/ or Barcelona in paperback form?
Asked by A Karen Brown Traveler [Jun 18, 2014]

Answer:

In order to provide the traveler with information in an interactive format and tied to the internet, we are now publishing our guides in electronic format (E-books and E-itineraries). We are no longer publishing Spain as a printed book and unfortunately, we are out of stock or I would send you the last edition.  I do know there are print copies available but, I cannot control the pricing.

If you would like our E-book or any of the E-Itineraries (they are all included in the E-Book but can be purchased individually), go to:

E-Book for SPAIN:

http://www.karenbrown.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=173&products_id=659&zenid=m7qmoppuetd8r4optm99v8trj6

List of E-Itineraries for SPAIN (including Barcelona Highlights):

Thank you for your interest in our guides!

Question:
I get an error message whenever I click on one of the itineraries that are supposed to show on the map. Says 404 error. As a result, I am unable to see the actual routes for the various itineraries Karen has proposed. Please advise.
Asked by A Karen Brown Traveler [Jun 17, 2014]

Answer:

I sincerely apologize.  Google has rewritten coding for their maps and it has dramatically affected our website.  There is never any warning - we just find errors on our website based on their changes and then need to rewrite our own code to adapt.  We are in the process of working on the way the itineraries show (they are built on point to point, longitude and latitude coordinates) and hence, you see an error message.  I am so sorry for the inconvenience and frustration.

You can always read the individual itinerary on our website (Select a DESTINATION-blue tab; then select KB ITINERARIES - green tab; then select the Itinerary of your choice from the drop down list).  If there is a particular itinerary you are interested in, please just let me know and I would be happy to send it to you with my apologies for the current mapping issues with our site and with my appreciation for your interest in our recommendations.

Thank you!  Karen

Question:
we are planning a trip to Ireland in the Fall, but your Ireland Inns book on Amazon is rather expensive. Are you going to publish an updated Ireland Inn book soon? Which version is your currently recommended book on Ireland Inns, and where can we get it?
Asked by A Karen Brown Traveler [Jun 15, 2014]

Answer:

We have transitioned all our guides to electronic format (E-Books).  The few guides that are available in print format are priced by the vendors - I have no control.  The original cover price was $19.95.

If you would like to purchase our E-Book to Ireland you can purchase directly from the link below:

Thank you so much for your interest in our guides and recommendations. I wish I had a print copy to mail you!

Question:
We are long-time fans of your guide books (we have been using them since our honeymoon in 1991!) Back in 1992, we stayed at Fattoria Titignano in Italy, and are thinking about returning there with our children this year, but this hotel is no longer in your guide. Could you let us know why it was dropped from the guide? Thank you!
Asked by A Karen Brown Traveler [Jun 2, 2014]

Answer:

Thank you long time fans!!!!  You are in large part a reason Karen Brown still exists! Thank you!

In terms of the Fattoria Titignano we decided to take them out with the 2010 edition.  It was not because we had received any negative feedback but, in truth they just NEVER responded to any of our correspondence or requests for updated information. Since we cannot get back to see every property every year, we rely on communication with the properties we recommend.  Also, we interpret their lack of correspondence as lack of interest of being recommended in our guide. We want the properties we recommend to value and appreciate the Karen Brown Traveler as we think the Karen Brown Traveler is very special and deserves a VIP welcome!

If you do end up returning to the Fattoria Titignano we would welcome your feedback!

Enjoy your family and travels in Italy,

Kindest regards,

Karen
